African-American Awareness Day

March 13, 2009

Organized by the African-American German Exchange e.V. (AAGE) for African-Americans and others with mixed heritage, being aware of their culture is an important issue.

Especially the “children of color” that are born of interracial couples. The African-American, originating in Africa, was brought to the “New World” and had to learn to survive in an environment where his culture and heritage was suppressed. But his identity remained imbedded within.

This event presents information about the African-American culture and heritage as well as the contributions that African-Americans have contributed to America and Germany, and that has also influenced the world.

Performances consist of recitals, theater, dance, and music for young and those who have remained young. Listen to the message that our youth communicates to us in their songs of HipHop, Rap and Soul.

New Years Party 2007/2008

January 22, 2008

This was our first “official event”. The members prepared excellent Soulfood and ensured that no one had to go home thirsty. We were not many, but for a first time it was great. The AAGE only recently received registration in December and of course this was a very good reason to party and a great start into the New Year.
